This took me back to two moments.

First, Torres Del Paine National Park in Southern Chile. Gorgeous Alpine landscape. A friend and I were hiking down the trail as another couple were hiking up. As we passed each other I pointed to the dark storm clouds that were forming at the peak. I told them, "It's getting very black up there." Without hesitation one of them said, "We're British. We like black."

Second, I purchased a battery assist bicycle last year. (See also: old people.) The absolute joy of zipping up hills in San Francisco and having a range of 65 km to road out across the countryside. Until... the dreaded flat tire. (See also: very heavy paperweight.) Pro tip here. Immediately invest in super durable Kevlar inner tubes and extra strength tires.

A good keen Kiwi battler, showing the trails a thing or two. Tail between the legs, sure, but getting back to his feet like Jesus on his final hikoi.
